Computacenter Culture
While Computacenter is a large corporation with great scope for career progression, it is not so big that it becomes devoid of a strong cultural identity. Its employees enthuse about a close-knit community, both in and out of the work place. As for the latter, team social events are a regular occurrence, giving employees a chance to unwind after a busy day at the office.
The highlights of the Computacenter social calendar include the regional Christmas Parties and the ‘Sales Kick-Off’, a spectacular two-day extravaganza organised for the company’s Sales Force.
Fun as they are, extra-curricular activities are not limited to dinners and drinks. Computacenter’s charity committee meets regularly to devise ways of raising money for worthy causes. Recent events have included a London to Paris bike ride, a walk along the Great Wall of China and a hike up to the base camp of Everest. Recently, Computacenter’s CEO, Mike Norris, raised over £20,000 for Cancer Research and The Willows Foundation by completing a 24-hour ‘golfathon’.
Here are some thoughts from one of our Sales Associates, Sergio, on a charity trip to South Africa in 2009:
"Travelling to South Africa and working with the Computacenter Charity Challenge team was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
After months of fundraising and preparation for the trip, the sense of achievement I felt when seeing over 1000 underprivileged children thank you was incredible. We were greeted with displays of song and dance as an affectionate show of appreciation.
It was by no means a holiday, everyone worked very hard throughout the challenge; to build a new school building which would accommodate more classrooms for this very over crowded Kwa-Manzini Primary school.
Overall, the experience was very humbling and a real eye opener. Any amount of work and effort put in was certainly worth it. I now have a close circle of friends from the trip who on a daily basis prove to be a vital internal network for me within the organisation. Being relatively new to the company this has proved invaluable. Even more importantly, I now have a sense of achievement and memories that I will never forget."

From a work perspective, Computacenter prides itself on having a strong meritocratic ethos, with career progression based firmly on talent and results. Similarly, Computacenter puts great emphasis on nurturing young talent, especially through its Sales Education programme, and, of course, the Sales Associate development programme. Young employees are given the full support of the senior management and are actively encouraged to voice new and innovative ideas.
One common trait among Computacenter employees is that many have served a sizeable tenure period at the company, and few have plans to leave. Whatever their reasons, the culture at Computacenter has always played a large part in creating this notable sense of loyalty.
