Riki Flutey:
2008 Computacenter Players' Player of the Year

For the past eight years, Computacenter has been title sponsor to the Rugby Players’ Association Awards Dinner. This is the only Rugby Awards ceremony where votes are cast by the players themselves. In 2008 the Awards Dinner took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

With over 100 players in attendance, this is an extremely well supported event. It also raises significant money for the RPA Benevolent Fund, which helps those players who have been forced to retire due to serious injury or illness.

On renewal of the title sponsorship for a further two years in 2007, Mike Norris, CEO of Computacenter commented,

“The RPA Rugby Players Awards Dinner is an important date in the UK’s sporting calendar. We are proud to continue our association with this event, which not only helps to support players in need but also recognises excellence on and off the rugby pitch.”

CEO of the RPA, Damian Hopley commented:

“This year promised to be an outstanding evening attended by the stars of the Guinness Premiership and the International game. We are delighted Computacenter has reiterated their support for the RPA and this high profile Awards Ceremony. It is tremendous to have a partner of such stature to understand the needs of the players and to contribute in such a positive way. We look forward to working side by side over the next two years.”

Seven awards are presented on the evening, these are:

  • Computacenter Players’ Player of the Year
  • Mercedes Benz Young Player of the Year – The Nick Duncombe Memorial Award
  • RPA Special Merit Award
  • Towergate TLC Blyth Spirit Award
  • The Sunday Times Try of the Year
